A gate to Mana
The quaint little village of ‘Mana’ (माणा) lies three kilometers north of Badrinath (बद्रीनाथ). It has not compromised with time. It has the distinction of being the last Indian village on the Indo-Tibet border. The villagers of Mana are semi-nomads who fled Tibet during the Chinese occupation. Come winter they move down to Gopeshwar (गोपेश्वर), literally lock stock and barrel, with even the little local school. They are ineluctably linked with the rich religious heritage of Badrinath. On the occasion of the closing ceremony of the shrine every year at the onset of winter, the villagers of Mana offer a wooleen shawl woven by the girls of the village for the deity.
माणा के निकट व्यास गुफा
This place was known as ‘Manibhadra Ashrama’ (मणिभद्र आश्रम), which claims to have witnessed the composition of the epic ‘Mahabharata’. It is belived the Vyas Muni composed the epic at Mana, He lived in a cave, known as ‘Vyas Gufa’ , other caves are ‘Ganesh Gufa’ and ‘Muchkunda Gufa. Legend has it that when the Pandavas came to Mana, en route to heaven, Draupadi found it difficult to cross the river Saraswati. Bhima requested Saraswati to narrow down a bit for Draupadi to cross over, but she refused to oblige. The enraged Bhima kicked at a rock and fell it across the river for Draupadi to cross. It goes by the name of ‘Bhim pul’, the river Saraswati rises from near the Mana pass on the border to emerge here only to disappear to emerge finally to merge with Ganga an Yamuna at Allahabad. Three kilometers from Bhim pul are the ‘Vasundhara Falls’. Legend has it that the Pandavas are said to have bathed here. Here the Vishnu Ganga or Alaknanda falls from a height of 122 meters. Locals belive that the spray from the fall falls only in the good and turns away from the evil. You could test your status!
Visiting Mana is like travelling through space and time. People of Mana have little to do with the sweeping changes blowing across the outside world. Like the great migration of Serengheti the folks of Mana migrate every year to Gopeshwar, and return when the snow thaws and summer returns to Mana.

भारत की आखिरी चाय की दुकान
माणा गांव के अन्तिम छोर पर व्यास गुफा के पास इस बोर्ड को देखकर हर सैलानी या तीर्थयात्री इस दुकान में चाय पीने जरुर जाता है। श्री चन्द्र सिंह बड़वाल इस दुकान के संचालक हैं, पिछले २५ वर्षों से वे इसका संचालन कर रहे हैं। इस दुकान में आपको साधारण चाय से लेकर माणा में पी जाने वाली नमकीन गरम चाय, वन तुलसी की चाय आदि भी मिल जायेगी। वैसे रोचक तथ्य यह भी है कि इस जगह से आगे न तो आबादी है और न ही कोई चाय की दुकान, सो यह दुकान अपने नाम को सार्थक कर रही है।
- यह फोटो माणा से कुछ दूरी पर स्थित सरस्वती नदी में भीम पुल का है। कहा जाता है कि जब पांडव स्वर्ग को जा रहे थे तो उन्होंने इस स्थान पर सरस्वती नदी से जाने के लिये रास्ता मांगा। लेकिन सरस्वती जी ने उसे अनसुना कर दिया और मार्ग नहीं दिया तो महाबली भीम ने दो बड़ी शिलायें उठाकर इसके ऊपर रख दीं, जिससे इस पुल का निर्माण हुआ। जिससे पांडव आगे चले गये और आज तक यह पुल मौजूद है।
- यह भी एक रोचक तथ्य है कि सरस्वती नदी यहीं पर विद्यमान है, इससे कुछ दूरी पर यह नदी अलकनन्दा में समाहित हो जाती है। नदी यहां से नीचे जाती तो दिखती है लेकिन नदी का संगम कहीं नहीं दिखता। इस बारे में भी मिथक हैं कि महाबली भीम ने रुष्ट होकर गदा से भूमि पर प्रहार किया, जिससे यह नदी पाताल लोक चली गई।
- दूसरा मिथक यह है कि जब गणेश जी वेदों को लिख रहे थे तो सरस्वती नदी अपने पूरे वेग से बह रही थी और बहुत शोर कर रही थी, आज भी भीम पुल के पास यह नदी बहुत ज्यादा शोर करती है। गणेश जी ने सरस्वती जी से कहा कि शोर कम करें, मुझे कार्य में व्यवधान हो रहा है, लेकिन सरस्वती जी नहीं दिखी। इससे रुष्ट होकर गणेश जी ने इन्हें श्राप दिया कि आज के बाद इससे आगे तुम किसी को नहीं दिखोगी।

Aparadise on earth so wise and calm like Godess Saraswati, My dream is to come and start a small patshala(school) for small children, we have a school for children who would normally not go to schoolin Kodaikanal Tmil NadU. Very soon I will visit thisbeautiful village called Mana
